WHY WE ARE REQUESTING A CHANGE
Our current bylaws cap the size of our board at 15 members. Expanding the size of the board to 19 members is important and beneficial for several reasons:
- In the last two years, CPUN has frequently found itself with either a full board or with more candidates than there are available seats and CPUN always seeks to encourage participation in our community.
- Since our existing maximum of 15 board seats was established, the population of Central Park has more than doubled. Alongside population growth, we have a) more neighborhoods b) neighborhoods at different stages of the development lifecycle. Increasing the size of our board increases our ability to have representations of the very different needs that different stages of the development lifecycle can require.
- Finally, expanding the size of the board gives CPUN increased ability to give representation to the diverse constituencies in our community, be it racial or ethnic diversity, housing diversity, and more.
HOW THE REVISED BYLAWS WOULD READ
The bylaw change to Article IV, Section 1 would be written as follows:
Section 1: Composition. The Board of Directors of CPUN shall consist of between five (5) and nineteen (19) members.
